Is Your Company Required to Report Under ASRS?

The introduction of the Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS) includes a phased implementation timeline, but not all companies will be affected at the same time. Understanding if and when your business falls under the requirements is key to getting ahead.
Who’s In Scope?
ASRS reporting will be rolled out in three phases based on a company’s size and significance. The criteria are as follows:
- Group 1 (starting 1 January 2025): Companies that meet at least two of the following consolidated revenue of $500 million or more, consolidated gross assets of $1 billion or more, or 500 or more employees.
- Group 2 (starting 1 July 2026): Companies that meet at least two of the following $200 million in consolidated revenue, $500 million in assets, or 250 or more employees.
- Group 3 (starting 1 July 2027): Companies with $50 million in revenue, $25 million in assets, and 100 or more employees.
Publicly listed companies, superannuation funds, and large financial institutions are also part of the priority rollout regardless of thresholds.
Why This Matters Even If You're Not in Scope Yet
Even if your company does not currently meet the reporting thresholds, that doesn’t mean ASRS is irrelevant. Investor expectations, supply chain pressure, and rising stakeholder interest in sustainability mean companies of all sizes are being asked to provide climate-related disclosures.
Taking early action helps build internal capabilities, streamline ESG data collection, and establish reporting processes that can scale with your business. It also positions your company as forward-thinking and responsive to global sustainability trends qualities that enhance brand trust and attract capital.
