Supplier Audits in multiple Middle Eastern countries allow a major US company to feel safe in their supply chain

We help companies not only look at their own ESG practices but also the practices of their partners and key suppliers. A deep dive into a supplier may be required as part of the initial selection process, or as part of the annual renewal process. Either way, knowing your supplier is key.

Case Study

Our focus was to help review a company in the Middle East that conducted logistics for a large US-based international oil company

As a US-based oil company, our client was concerned about bribery, corruption, conflict, government intervention and governance issues in a major supplier working for them in the Middle East. We developed and delivered an audit programme in multiple countries.

Situation or challenge

Our client operates in some of the most dangerous areas of the world in some of the most challenging markets. Several risk areas in the Speeki ESG risk model were in their minds when working with a new logistics provider. They needed to audit the company and test their systems across multiple risk areas quickly.

Our solution was to deliver an audit plan and conduct audits across multiple countries including on the ground in Iraq, Kuwait, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Our scope included all areas of compliance and ethics, but with a strong focus on anti-corruption controls. Our purpose was to ensure that the company had robust controls and that it was ready to act for our client and meet their stringent requirements.

The audits were very well received by the subject company, as we were focused on how to improve their systems, not catch them out with issues. The thinking was all about improvement and how to minimise the risk of problems arising. Ultimately the company was provided with a long list of areas that it had to improve and focus on, and they were very appreciative of the guidance provided to help them improve their systems and minimise their risk.
