Canada's sustainability reporting system is currently in a transitional phase with the introduction of the Canadian Sustainability Disclosure Standards (CSDS) by the Canadian Sustainability Standards Board (CSSB).
Both CSDS 1 and CSDS 2 are effective for annual reporting periods beginning on or after January 1, 2025, with CSDS based on the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) framework but include modifications "reflecting the Canadian context".
Canada has also introduced the Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act. Covered entities must prepare and publish annual reports detailing their efforts to prevent and mitigate the risk of forced labour and child labour in their supply chains.
