Almost every organisation makes environmental claims: on packaging, on websites, in advertising, in annual reports, in procurement submissions and in investor communications. Very few could produce the evidence for any one of them at short notice, for the product as it is made and sold today.

The question is no longer whether a claim was made in good faith. Believing a claim to be true is not the same as being able to prove it, and the organisations that get caught out are rarely lying. They simply could not produce the proof when it was asked for.

Good intentions are not substantiation

The enforcement environment has changed. Regulators in Australia, the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States have handed down penalties of AUD 8–13 million and USD 4–17.5 million over environmental claims their makers could not substantiate. UK regulators can now fine up to 10% of global turnover without going to court, and in the European Union the EmpCo Directive applies from 27 September 2026.

Evidence before the claim, not after

SPK GCMS3000:2026 was created to address that. It puts a management system behind green claims and runs the whole thing from end to end: every claim has an owner and sits in one register, nothing is published until its evidence has been reviewed, and a supplier’s own declaration does not count as substantiation. When the product or the market changes, the claim is reviewed again, and every claim carries a renewal date after which it is suspended until the evidence is refreshed.

Free to read, free to implement

SPK GCMS3000:2026 is publicly available and free to read. Every requirement an organisation would be assessed against is transparent and available in advance. The technology to implement it is free too: any organisation can set up on the Speeki Engage® | ESG and Sustainability Assurance Platform and activate the SPK GCMS3000:2026 framework at no charge.

Most of the green claims that get organisations into trouble were made in good faith. That is exactly the problem. Nobody asks what you believed when you made the claim. They ask for the proof. We wrote SPK GCMS3000:2026 to help organisations have it ready.
