ISO 14001:2026 has now been published, replacing ISO 14001:2015 and starting a formal three-year transition period. For certified organisations, the clock is running. For those yet to certify, the 2026 edition sets a sharper baseline.
The core structure remains, but expectations rise in key areas: climate-related risks and opportunities in the context of the organisation, explicit consideration of emergency situations, a stronger lifecycle perspective from sourcing to end-of-life, a new clause on managing organisational change and a wider focus on externally provided processes, products and services.

The documentation challenge
ISO 14001:2026 is documentation-intensive – from the environmental policy leadership must approve, to aspect and impact evaluations, to the audit trails your certification body will inspect. The 2026 edition adds change management records, more structured management review inputs and outputs and stronger lifecycle and supply chain evidence.
